The UCSD Luau & Longboard Invitational was searching for ways to increase their public relations efforts and, thereby, funds raised. Since the event was associated with a university, Whitelaw Marketing approached the communications department at UCSD and worked with one of the professors to incorporate the production of a public service announcement into her class. We then got tape stock donated from a local production company, bringing the production budget to nearly nothing. We worked with other fundraiser committee members to present the tapes to local television stations for consideration. The piece aired several times over the past few years on several different local stations and won an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science.
